Benefits
While you are on a sabbatical leave, any benefits you are enrolled in continue for the duration of your leave. This includes extended health care, dental, flexible spending accounts, basic life insurance, optional life insurance, optional accidental death and dismemberment, disability insurance and the pension plan.
Claim Submission
Even though you are on a sabbatical leave, you are required to follow the terms of the policy and submit all claims by the submission deadline. View claim prodedures and deadlines.
Health Plan
The Health plan provides comprehensive coverage for medical care while you are traveling out of Canada. However, some limitations apply. Review your Health plan summary.
Dental Care
Reimbursement for dental services outside Canada is also limited to the reasonable and customary charges in accordance with the Saskatchewan general practitioners fee guide. Again, it is recommended that you obtain routine dental treatment prior to departure.
Flexible Spending Program
Your annual allocation occurs on January 1st each year. Make sure to log into PAWS during the month of December to review and make any changes to your allocation.
Disability (Salary Continuance) Plan
If you become ill or injured and are not able to continue with your leave project, you need to promptly notify Wellness Resources in addition to your Department Head and Dean. An effective date of the illness or injury is required. The salary continuance policy requires that you return to Canada for treatment as soon as possible or benefits may be jeopardized.
Life Insurance
You are covered under the university group life insurance for death occurring anywhere in the world. You will be insured for two times your annual earnings, up to a maximum of $500,000. You are also covered for accidental death 24 hours a day while traveling on authorized University business (principal sum of $100,000), subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
If you purchased any Optional Life Insurance and/or Optional Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, the coverage amount is in addition to your group life insurance coverage.
Academic Pension Plan
If your leave is at 100%, you must continue pension contributions while on leave. If your Leave is at 90%, you have an option to discontinue your pension contributions to the Academic Pension Plan. You may wish to consult with the Pensions Office prior to making your decision. If you decide to waive pension contributions please advise ConnectionPoint in writing prior to your leave.
